WHAT IS VEHICLE CERTIFICATION?
This procedure must be completed before registering a car at a service center. Without a certificate, it is impossible to register the vehicle, which means you won't get a technical passport or license plates.
The document is required to determine the country of origin of the vehicle. It also confirms the established technical and environmental specifications, allowing the vehicle to be safely operated on public roads.

WHICH CATEGORIES REQUIRE CERTIFICATION?
Certification is mandatory for the following vehicles:
- passenger cars;
- all commercial vehicles;
- cargo-passenger vehicles;
- trailers and semi-trailers;
- buses and trolleybuses;
- motorcycles;
- special vehicles.
Document processing is carried out for individual vehicles and batches when the vehicle is imported in bulk.
HOW DOES CERTIFICATION WORK?
Certification goes through several stages:
- The vehicle owner or their representative must submit an application for certification and vehicle documents;
- A specialist will check the documents;
- The vehicle will undergo necessary testing in a specialized laboratory.
Upon successful completion of tests and correctness of the provided documents, the vehicle owner receives an individual approval certificate.
During the certification process, the vehicle's main systems are tested for functionality and performance. The braking system, steering, transmission, electrical system, and others are checked. The expert verifies all the details and aspects that could potentially be hazardous during vehicle operation. The VIN codes are compared and the manufacturing year in the registration documents is verified.

- receiving the conformity certificate.
Vehicles from Europe usually do not pose problems because they meet the same standards as in Ukraine. The certification process for vehicles from the USA or China depends on their technical condition.

VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION
During the technical inspection, both individual parts and complete systems are checked for suitability. To ensure an unobstructed inspection, the vehicle must be clean.
Also, pay attention to:
- Lighting system. Front position lights must be white, rear turn signals, side repeaters must be yellow, rear fog lights must be red.
- Speedometer readings. They must be in kilometers, with both miles and kilometers allowed.
- Emissions standards. For passenger cars, the standards must be at least Euro-2, and for other vehicles, at least Euro-5.
Lighting systems should not have coatings that reduce the intensity or distribution of light. The windshield and front side windows must transmit 75% and 70% of light, respectively.
WHO CAN CONDUCT VEHICLE CERTIFICATION?
Certification can be carried out by both government and private companies. The cost of certification may vary. The company must have a permit to conduct the inspection. A list of authorized companies can be found on the Ministry of Infrastructure website.

When choosing a company, consider not only its location, as branches are often open in different cities. The choice depends on:
- experience;
- time required for certification;
- safety.

HOW LONG DOES CERTIFICATION TAKE?
The time required for testing and examination of the vehicle depends on its make and country of import. Therefore, specific time frames are unavailable. Typically, it takes from two to three hours to a full day to receive the certificate.

VEHICLE CERTIFICATION COST
The cost of the service varies slightly between private and government companies. The price is provided after the initial inspection. It is important to note that vehicles from the USA must undergo an environmental standards check. Often, the environmental class is indicated on the hood. California's standards are considered the strictest and are closest to European ones.
Vehicles with the 51 state code on the hood will undergo additional checks. Overall, certifying a vehicle from the USA costs about twice as much as one from Europe.
Sometimes, the windows are overly tinted, and the vehicle lacks fog lights or red turn signals. In such cases, additional costs are incurred to address the discrepancies. Cleaning and washing of the vehicle may also be required.
